Blazers Open Fall Schedule Friday at Midland Intercollegiate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s tennis team opens its fall schedule this weekend when the Blazers travel to Midland, Texas, to take part in the Midland Intercollegiate.
Competition begins Friday at 9 a.m. with UAB senior Pardis Kianoush matching up with Jacqueline Zuhse of Penn State in singles play. Sophomore Reghan Lynch is scheduled to meet Tamuna Kutubidze of Conference USA foe North Texas at 10:30 a.m.
Blazer newcomer Hana Sisirak will face No. 7 seed Angeles de los Rios of UT Arlington at 10:30 a.m., while fellow freshman Marlene Herrmann goes up against No. 15 seed Shannon Hanley of Penn State at 10:30 a.m.
Senior Catherine Ragon also competes at 10:30 a.m. and battles second-seeded Olaya Garrido-Rivas of TCU.
“We are very excited for the opportunity to compete this early in the fall,” UAB head coach Mark Tjia said. “The Midland Intercollegiate is the best run event of the semester, and we will have a chance to mix it up with some of the top programs in the country. I know the girls are really looking forward to the challenge.”
In doubles play, Ragon and Sisirak face off with Andrea Leblanc and Rachana Bhat of New Mexico, while Kianoush and Hermann meet Lucile Pothier and Ansley Boarman of Abilene Christian.
