BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Sarah Morris delivered her first career multi-goal game and Marin Carter added three points to lead UAB to a 4-1 victory over UT Martin Sunday evening from BBVA Compass Field.
Morris, who hadn't scored in almost two full seasons, netted the game-winning goal early in the first half (13th minute) and put the exclamation point on the scoring outburst with a second goal just over two minutes before the final horn.
"It feels good to be able to help me team find a way to get a win while seeing so many people score goals," Morris said. "I think our movement was much better tonight and we played more like a team than a group of individuals."
Blazer sophomore Marin Carter wasted little time in giving UAB an early advantage, as she struck for a goal just over one minute into play. Jessica Do started the play by dribbling down the center of the field before leading Carter with a pass to her right. Carter gained possession in stride, took two dribbles to her right and fired a shot that sailed over UT Martin keeper MaKenzie Crawford and into the far corner of the net.
Do gave UAB a 3-0 lead in the 22nd minute when she tallied her first goal of the season. Following a through ball from Rachel Green, Do dribbled down the middle of the field and split a pair of Skyhawk defenders before beating Crawford with a shot into the left comer of the net.
"We talked about a lot of different things after Friday night's game against Austin Peay," UAB head coach Harold Warren said. "We wanted to play quicker in and around the box, and I think that's what got us the goals tonight." I knew we were going to be on tonight just from watching us in warmups."
The Blazer offense held a 17-7 shot advantage and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. UAB has a combined 11 corner kicks through two games this season.
Saphyra Coombs-James scored the lone goal for UT Martin on a penalty kick in the 47th minute.
UAB keeper Kelsey Daugherty made two saves and earned her third career victory.
"Kelsey is our leader back there and we can always count on her to be good," Warren added.
UAB returns to the pitch Friday at 4:30 p.m. when the Blazers travel to Louisville, Ky., to face Louisville from Lynn Stadium.
