Meister Shines on Opening Day of C-USA Championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Ali Meister posted three personal-best marks and sits in fourth place in the heptathlon after day one of the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships from Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
Meister opened the day with a personal-best time of 14.30 in the 100-meter hurdles en route to a fifth-place finish. After taking sixth-place in the high jump with a height of 5-02.50, Meister placed seventh in the shot put with a personal-best distance of 33-10.00.
Meister capped her day with an eighth-place showing in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 26.16 to finish with 2,993 points.
“Ali is in great position to score points for us after an impressive opening day,” UAB head coach Kurt Thomas said. “
Hannah Hensley stands in 10th place in the heptathlon following three top-10 finishes. The Southern Pines, N.C., native finished third in the high jump (5-05.00), eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (14.71) and 10th in the 200 meters (26.54). Hensley, who enters the final three events with 2,829 points, turned in a personal-best time in the 100-meter hurdles.
“Hannah is strong in each of the final three events, so we anticipate she will perform at a high level and put herself in position for points,” Thomas added.
Sophomore Jimmeshia Wilder posted a personal-best height of 4-09.74 in the high jump.
“All three girls battled hard and will be ready to finish strong tomorrow,” Thomas said.
The heptathlon resumes Friday at 3 p.m. with the long jump, javelin throw and 800 meters.
