Blazers Feature Strong Showing at Jace LaCoste Invite

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The UAB track and field team turned in seven personal-best marks Saturday at the Mississippi State University Jace LaCoste Invite from the Mike Sanders Track Complex.
In running events, senior Jenna Wesley placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08.87 to finish with one of the top three fastest times in school history. In addition, Wesley ranks third in Conference USA and 71st in the NCAA in the event.
Sophomore Rebecca Evans took fourth in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:13.45, which also stands as one of the top five times in Conference USA this season.
Distance runner Lucy Crookes posted a personal-best time of 4:26.58 in the 1500 metes en route to a third-place finish. Crookes’ time is among the top five of anyone in Conference USA thus far this season.
Sophomore Hannah Hensley recorded two personal-best marks, finishing 20th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.88 and sixth in the long jump with a distance of 18-07.75.
In field events, Aisha Nelson took second in the high jump with a personal-best height of 5-07.00, which ranks as the ninth-best mark in Conference USA. Freshman Zieandrea Bridges turned in a personal-best distance in the hammer throw with a mark of 128-03.00.
Senior Avril McGhee placed fourth in the triple jump with a season-best distance of 39-08.75.
“The rain held up and we had some very good performances,” UAB head coach Kurt Thomas said. “The ladies were tired from finals earlier this week, but it was nice to see how well we responded. We now have two weeks to rest and get ready for conference championships.”
UAB takes part in Conference USA Outdoor Championships May 12-14 from Murfreesboro, Tenn.
