Blazers Set for Meets at Georgia Tech, Virginia

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB Track and Field team takes to the road this weekend to take part in the Georgia Tech Invitational and the Virginia Challenge.
Competition at Georgia Tech begins Friday at 11 a.m. from George C. Griffin Track with the hammer throw, while running events are scheduled to start at 5 p.m. with the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries.
Field events kickoff day two Saturday at 11 a.m. with the high jump and the pole vault, and running events begin at 1 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay.
“We are coming off some really good performances over the past two weekends and we want to build off those competitions and continue to get better,” UAB head coach Kurt Thomas said. “We will be competing on a great track this weekend at Georgia Tech and hopefully will get the results we are looking for.”
UAB distance runners Jenna Wesley, Hannah Coffin and Lucy Crookes will all compete in Charlottesville, Va., at Lannigan Field.
Wesley will take part in the 800 meters, Coffin in the 3000-meter steeplechase and Crookes in the 5000 meters.
“The Virginia Challenge is another outstanding opportunity for our distance athletes to compete against the best runners in the NCAA,” UAB associate coach Matt Esche said. “We are fit, excited and ready to take advantage of the incredible opportunity we have to improve our NCAA East Preliminary rankings.”
