BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB track and field team continues its outdoor season this weekend when the Blazers travel to Florida and California to participate in three different meets. UAB will compete at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla., the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival from San Francisco, Calif.
The 73rd annual Pepsi Florida Relays will be hosted by the University of Florida at Percy Beard Track, located inside James G. Pressly Stadium. In addition to the collegiate competition, which features eight men's teams and 10 women's teams ranked in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Computer Rankings, numerous professional clubs, past Olympians and World Champions, and Olympic hopefuls from across the globe will take part in the 2016 edition of the meet.
In total, over 270 college, club and professional teams and another 330-plus high school teams, amounting to over 4,200 competitors, will run at this year's Pepsi Florida Relays.
Field events open the meet Saturday at noon with the women's hammer throw, while running events are scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m. with the women's 100-meter hurdles.
"The Florida Relays is one of the best meets in the country every year, and we look forward to competing against outstanding competition," UAB head coach Kurt Thomas said. "The environment screams performance, and we hope our athletes respond to that."
