Women's Tennis Welcomes No. 25 Mississippi State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s tennis squad (2-5) looks to rebound after a tough loss Wednesday as it welcomes No. 25 Mississippi State (5-1) to George Ward on Friday afternoon. First serve between the Blazers and Bulldogs is slated for 2 p.m.
Senior Pardis Kianoush looks to extend her streak as she has posted back-to-back wins on court one for the Blazers. Catherine Ragon looks to do the same as she has posted two straight wins on courts three and four.
Last time out, UAB fell to cross-town rival Samford, 4-3. The Blazers’ dominant singles play came down to court six, but Samford was able to outlast UAB.
The Blazers will have their hands full as the No. 25 Bulldogs come to Birmingham with three ranked singles players and a pair of ranked doubles tandems.
UAB is slated to face No. 9 Jasmine Lee, No. 37 Anatasia Rentouli and No. 123 Madison Harrison in singles action. In doubles play, Mississippi State boasts the No. 47 duo in the nation, Jennifer Brown and Kristina Vozniak, as well as the No. 51 doubles duo, Madison Harrison and Georgiana Patrasc.
The Bulldogs’ lone loss came to then-No. 16 Duke, 4-1. MSU has defeated three ranked teams this season in No. 36 Florida State, No. 63 New Mexico and No. 41 DePaul.
Most recently, the Bulldogs blanked No. 41 DePaul, 7-0.
This marks the 24th matchup between the schools in program history. UAB and Mississippi State last met in January of 2015 in Starkville, where the Blazers fell 7-0. The last time UAB defeated MSU was on Feb. 25, 1996, 6-3, in Starkville.
