BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB softball team opens its 2016 home slate Tuesday with its lone home contest in February when the No. 5 Alabama Crimson Tide comes to Mary Bowers Field for a 6 p.m. matchup.
The first 100 UAB fans through the gate Tuesday receive a “Beat Bama” pin while the first 300 fans receive shakers. Students are encouraged to join Gang Green for a pregame tailgate beginning at 4:30 p.m. outside Bowers Field.
Football head coach Bill Clark is set to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Tuesday’s contest.

UAB is 7-9 all-time in home openers after defeating Mississippi State 5-4 in extra innings last season.
Tuesday’s contest marks the fifth time the Blazers have open its home schedule against the Tide. Alabama leads the all-time series 18-0.
The Blazers are facing its third ranked opponent of its season as Tuesday marks the first of four games this week against ranked teams. The midweek contest is the first of eight games against squads from the Southeastern Conference.
The Blazers are coming off a 1-4 opening weekend where the Blazers matched up against two ranked opponents and three squads that earned NCAA Regional bids a season ago.
Junior JoJo Fallen leads the Blazers and is ranked 10th in Conference USA with a .467 average. The outfield has notched seven hits and brings a four-game hit streak into Tuesday’s contest. Senior Sara Beth Williamson has driven home a team-leading three RBIs while finishing 5-for-7 (.357) at the plate last weekend.
Junior Madison Hir leads the Blazers pitching staff with a 1-1 record. The West Palm Beach, Fla., native holds a team-best 0.88 ERA allowing just one earned run over eight innings while striking out four batters.
Alabama enters Tuesday’s contest with a three-game win streak and a 4-1 overall record after a strong performance at the UCF Classic last weekend. The Tide’s lone lost came against No. 18 UCF, 8-1.
Andrea Hawkins leads Alabama after going 6-for-10 (.600) over opening weekend scoring four runs. Demi Turner leads the Tide with five RBIs while batting .533 at the plate.
Sydney Littlejohn has seen the most action in the circle for Alabama after pitching 14 innings over the weekend. Littlejohn holds a 4.50 ERA allowing 18 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 12. Madi Moore pitched 12 shutout innings over the weekend allowing just nine hits.
