Blazers Set for Prime Time Matchup with Auburn

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In-state rivals collide at Bartow Arena Saturday at 7:30 p.m. when the UAB men’s basketball team hosts Auburn live on beIN Sports.
Fans can access beIN sports on Direct TV channel 620 or catch all the action by listening live to David Crane, "The Voice of the Blazers," and UAB legend Steve Mitchell on the flagship station for UAB men's basketball, WZRR-FM Talk 99.5 or on the UAB Gameday mobile app.
UAB students are encouraged to arrive early to pick up a wristband to guarantee admission. Wristbands can be picked up from the UAB Athletics Ticket Office starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Valid student ID is required – one wristband per ID. The UAB Athletics Ticket Office is located at the main entrance of Bartow Arena.
Students can also join us for a tailgate party inside the Hill Center at 5 p.m. Come and enjoy music, free food and opportunities to win prizes.
Bartow Arena doors open at 6:30 p.m. and free UAB Basketball Under Armour t-shirts will be available for students upon entry to the student seating area. Seating is provided on a first come, first serve basis.
UAB (4-3) returned home Tuesday after a three-game road trip and turned in a 75-45 victory over Alabama A&M. Junior William Lee finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and three blocks to help the Blazers improve to 50-0 all-time against Southwestern Athletic Conference opponents. The Plantersville, Ala., native averages 3.0 blocks per game and ranks first in Conference USA and 18th in the NCAA.
Chris Cokley added 10 points and six rebounds and leads UAB with 13.7 points per game to go along with 5.4 rebounds per game. The Savannah, Ga., native also shoots 60.0 percent from the field and ranks fifth in Conference USA and 46th in the nation. Last season at Auburn, Cokley scored a career-high 25 points and pulled down 12 rebounds off the bench.
Senior Dirk Williams pours in 11.3 points per game and has made a team-high 11 three-pointers.
Auburn (5-1) won its fourth home game of the year Tuesday when it defeated USC Upstate 90-83 behind 23 points and six rebounds from freshman Mustapha Heron. The Tigers’ only loss this season was a 96-71 setback to No. 15 Purdue in the Cancun Challenge.
Heron leads the Auburn offensive attack with 16.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Heron also paces the team with a .429 shooting percentage from beyond the arc. Danjel Purifoy (14.7 ppg) and Jared Harper (10.5 ppg) also score in double figures for the Tigers.
UAB and Auburn will meet on the hardwood for the 19th time in school history when the two schools battle Saturday at 7:30 p.m. UAB owns an 11-7 lead in the all-time series that dates back to the 1982-83 season. In addition, the Blazers are 82-22 all-time in games played against schools from the state of Alabama.
The Tigers posted a win in the most recent meeting when they secured a 75-74 victory over UAB last season at Auburn in the season opener for both teams.
Saturday also marks the first time Auburn has visited Bartow Arena since Nov. 22, 1996, a game in which UAB turned in a 64-57 victory. UAB is 8-5 all-time against Auburn in games played in Birmingham — 3-1 at Bartow Arena and 5-4 at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center (Legacy Arena).
