Blazers Set for ITA Southern Regional Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB’s women’s tennis team is set to compete in the ITA Southern Regional Championships, which begin Friday at 9 a.m. from the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The tournament is a four-day event and will feature 17 schools in the region, consisting of schools from Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. In addition to UAB and tournament host Alabama, the event will feature participants from Auburn, LSU, Tulane, Louisiana Monroe, Louisiana Tech, Nicholls State, Southern Miss, Troy, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Samford, Northwestern State, Jacksonville State and Louisiana Lafayette.
“This is a great opportunity to play against the best teams from the southern region,” UAB head coach Mark Tjia said. “For some of us, it will be our first chance to face nationally-ranked players from nationally-ranked teams, and we are looking forward to this challenge.”
Pardis Kianoush and Marlene Herrmann open play for UAB at 9 a.m. with a doubles match against Georgie Axon and Caroline Turner of Auburn. Sophomore Reghan Lynch joins forces with Abby Owens of LSU for a doubles match against Diana Monslave and Genevie Ulanday of Jacksonville State.
In singles play, Herrmann is scheduled to face Taylor Russo of Auburn at 10:15 a.m., while Kianoush meets Alex Kitchen of Southern Miss also at 10:15 a.m. Freshman Hana Sisirak will play Ulanday at 11:30 a.m. and Lynch is slated to battle Diana Mirceta of Jacksonville State at 11:30 a.m.
