Blazers Fall to North Texas in Three Sets

DENTON, Texas – The UAB volleyball team battled back after allowing North Texas (4-4, 1-0 C-USA) to jump to an early lead, but the Blazers (4-4, 0-2 C-USA) could not overcome the deficit and fell to the Mean Green in three sets on Monday at the North Texas Volleyball Complex.
Senior Sydney Nelson recorded 10 kills to lead the Blazers’ offense. Nelson added two block assists for UAB. Junior Gabby Deshotel added seven kills while tallying a team-leading eight digs and two block assists. Junior Caitlin Conner set up the Blazers with 14 assists.
North Texas closed the match with a .324 clip while Carnae Dillard garnered 19 kills.
North Texas jump to a 5-0 lead early in the first set, but the Blazers battled back to come within one point before falling 25-21. Set two saw UAB take its first lead of the day, but could not fight off the North Texas offense and drop the second and third sets to the Mean Green (25-20, 25-18).
The Blazers remain on the road to compete in the Scenic City Showdown, hosted by Chattanooga. UAB will open the tournament on Friday with the Mocs. Match time is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
