UAB Volleyball Falls to Charlotte, 3-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB volleyball team blazed to a first set victory, but Charlotte battled back to win three-straight sets to claim a 3-1 victory Sunday in Bartow Arena.
UAB (7-11, 0-4 C-USA) set the tone early by scoring the first point off a kill from junior Gabby Deshotel and not relinquishing the lead the entire set. The 49ers (5-8, 2-1 C-USA) fought off five-straight set points before freshman Jillian
Charlotte led by as much as seven points in set two, but the Blazers battled back within one before the 49ers claimed set two, 25-23, to lock the game at 1-all at the break.
After intermission, Charlotte's offense sparked to topped UAB in sets three (25-18) and set four (25-16) to win the conference match, 4-1.
Deshotel led the offense with her sixth double-double of the season. The outside hitter tallied 18 kills for a .268 clip while adding 11 blocks on the defensive side of the net. Deshotel also garnered one assist, one
Junior Amber Treace dished out 41 assists while combining for three digs and two blocks for the Blazer defense. The setter also tallied two service aces and one kill.
Junior libero Emma Schroer led the Blazer defense with 28 digs while recording one service ace.
Sarah McDonald led the Charlotte offense with 19 kills for a .333 attack percentage. The 49ers attacked at a team percentage of .288 with 52 kills while UAB recorded 51 kills at a team clip of .130.
The Blazers continue their home stand on Friday as UAB host UTSA in a Conference USA match. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
