UAB Volleyball Falls to ULM in Five Sets, 3-2

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Junior Gabby Deshotel recorded her fifth double-double of the season, but the UAB volleyball team (7-10) fell to ULM (9-5), 3-2, Monday in Bartow Arena.
"We came out flat from the first four points, and that set the tone," said head coach Kerry Messersmith. "At times, we did a good job of digging our way out. We served the ball very well until the end, but we struggled in some areas."
ULM struck first with a 25-23 set one victory, but the Blazers battled back in set two, fighting off two set points before winning, 29-27. The two squads entered intermission tied at 1-all.After the break, the Blazers went on an 8-1 run to open the third set before ultimately winning, 25-19, to give UAB a 2-1 advantage.
ULM opened the fourth set with four-straight points before UAB got on the board. The Blazers would fight off five-straight set points, but the Warhawks won set four, 25-23. ULM claimed the final set, 15-9, to take the 3-2 victory.
Deshotel led the UAB offense with 20 kills and recorded a .226 clip. The outside hitter added 12 digs to the UAB defense while totaling three blocks.

Hope Pawlik led the Warhawks with 23 kills and 10 digs to record a double-double.
UAB will return to conference play on Sunday as the Blazers host Charlotte at 1 p.m. in Bartow Arena.
