BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB volleyball team will travel to Troy, Ala., for its first midweek match of the 2015 season when the Blazers face the Trojans on Tuesday evening. The midweek battle is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
UAB (2-1) is coming off a two-win performance at the Lamar Invitational with wins over Marist, 3-0, and Texas Southern, 3-2. The Blazers’ only loss was to tournament host Lamar, 3-0. Junior Gabby Deshotel led the team over the weekend with 48 kills (4.36 k/s) and an attack percentage of .220.

UAB Notes
Double-Double for Deshotel
Junior Gabby Deshotel opened the 2015 season in strong fashion by recording a double-double in her first outing. Deshotel racked up 18 kills and 12 digs against Marist to reach that feat. Deshotel led the UAB offense throughout the La­mar invitational with team-leading kill figures. Deshotel closed the tournament with 48 kills with three-straight double-figure kills performance. Deshotel is averaging 4.36 kills per set.
Undefeated Facing First-Time Opponents
The 2015 season sees the Blazers facing off for the first time in program history against five opponents. The Blazers are currently 2-0 in first-time meetings with victories over Marist (3-0) and Texas Southern (3-2). Three inaugural meetings remain on the UAB schedule. The Green and Gold will battle Savannah State in Bartow Arena during the Blazer Classic. The Blazers will battle Gardner-Webb during the Scenic City Showdown hosted by Chattanooga. The final first-time opponent will come at the Hal Messersmith Memorial Tournament when UAB matches up with UMass Lowell.
Series History
Tuesday will mark the 28th meeting in program history between the Troy Trojans and UAB. The Blazers currently hold a 22-5 advantage over Troy.
Scouting Troy
Troy opened the 2015 season at the Chattanooga Classic where the Trojans amassed a 1-2 record. Troy opened the Tournament with a 3-1 victory over Eastern Kentucky before dropping back-to-back matches to tournament host Chattanooga (3-1) and Valparaiso (3-0).
The Trojan offense is led by Symone Shaw who tallied 28 kills for a .120 attack percentage over the weekend. Shaw averages 2.55 kills per set. Setter Reina Terry has picked up 66 assists through the first weekend of the regular season to pace the Trojan offense. Terry also has accounted for three kills and two service aces.
The Trojan defense is led by Ali Dowdall who averages 5.55 digs per set. With 61 digs on the season, Dowall also boasts nine assists and one ace.
