UAB Softball's Attfield, Williamson Named NFCA All-Region

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Following record-breaking seasons at the plate, UAB softball players Caitlin Attfield and Sara Beth Williamson were named to the Mideast NFCA All-Region First Team, the organization announced on Thursday.
This marks the first time in program history that UAB has had more than one Mideast NFCA First Team All-Region selection in a single season, as the Blazers picked up one first team pick each year from 2012-2014, as well as in 2010.
Attfield earns her fourth yearly honor of 2015. The junior shortstop was recently named the 2015 Conference USA Player of the Year, while also earning selections to C-USA's First Team as well as the C-USA All-Academic Team.
A native of Niagara Falls, N.Y., Attfield concluded the 2015 campaign as UAB's all-time career batting average leader (.417), as well as the program's career leader in on-base percentage (.470) and hits (237).
Among other records she set in 2015, Attfield broke her own program record in batting average after hitting .473, a mark that ranks seventh in the nation.
Selected to the All-Region First Team at first base, Williamson picks up her second yearly accolade, as she joined Attfield as a 2015 C-USA First Team choice.
Williamson finished the 2015 season batting .407 to cap the year with the program's third-highest average in a single season, and shattered the program record for slugging percentage (.628 by Kristen McGrath in 2014) by racking up a .743 mark this season.
Attfield and Williamson each reached base at a .511 clip in 2015, tying for the top single-season on-base percentage in school history.
