Daniell Named To Capital One Academic All-District Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB's Rachel Daniell, who was a senior on this past season's Blazer women's tennis squad, has been named to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team, it was announced on Thursday.
Voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Daniell is one of 10 honorees in the NCAA Division I District 4 region, which includes school's from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Puerto Rico. She is now eligible for the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America Team.
In addition to Thursday's announcement, Daniell is also a three-time Conference USA All-Academic Team selection and was named a 2015 ITA Southern Region Arthur Ashe, Jr. award winner earlier this week.
"Rachel just keeps collecting the hardware and she deserves all the recognition she gets," head coach Mark Tjia said. "She really has put her heart and soul into representing the Blazers in every aspect of her life and has set an amazing example and standard for our current and future players. We are really proud of her."
The Douglasville, Ga., native boasted an impressive 3.93 GPA in biology (pre-medicine focus) during her time at UAB. She tied for second on the team this past season in singles wins during dual match play with seven victories. Daniell also had nine doubles triumphs on the year, which was the highest total on the team.
During her career at UAB, Daniell earned the C-USA Commissioner's All-Academic Medal and placed on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll during each of her four seasons. She was also a recipient of the C-USA Spring 2014 Spirit of Service Award and placed on the league's All-Academic Team in each of the past three seasons.
Daniell was also UAB's C-USA SAAC representative. In the community, she was the UAB student-athlete liaison to the Ronald McDonald Charities of Alabama and put in over 100 hours of community service during the 2014-15 academic year alone. In addition, she started a pre-med student-athlete group to help students understand academic requirements.
