UAB Softball Travels for Midweek Doubleheader at Troy

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- After a week off, the UAB softball team will return to action on Tuesday, as the Blazers travel to Troy for a 4 p.m. CT doubleheader at Troy Softball Complex.
Last time they were in action, the Blazers (22-7) split a conference doubleheader with UTSA, as they fell 11-5 in game one, but earned a 3-2 win in game two.
Troy (18-16) last played on Tuesday, March 24, in a doubleheader at Kennesaw State. The Trojans lost both games that evening, dropping game one, 4-0, and game two, 3-1.
UAB and Troy will be meeting on the softball diamond for the 24th and 25th times on Tuesday, with the Trojans holding a 14-9 all-time series edge. Troy has won the last two matchups against UAB, including a 3-2 score in the Trojans' favor last season at UAB Softball Field.
Live video and live stats will be made available by Troy for each of Tuesday's matchups.
UAB Posts Solid Rankings in NCAA RPI
After a 22-7 start to the 2015 softball season, the Blazers find themselves ranked within the top 50 teams in the NCAA RPI. The UAB softball team was ranked at 44 in the initial NCAA RPI, and slid to 48 after being idle last week.
UAB has faced four teams in the top 50 thus far, including Auburn, Chattanooga, Minnesota and Mississippi State. The Blazers have eight games remaining against top-50 RPI schools, as they are set for a rematch with Auburn, a home-and-home against Alabama, a doubleheader at Chattanooga, as well as a conference series at Marshall.
Scouting Troy
Troy is 5-5 in its last 10 games played, which includes a current streak of four straight losses and a prior streak of five straight wins. During the five-game winning streak, the Trojans swept Appalachian State, and knocked off Florida State and Louisiana.
The Troy bats have produced 30 home runs this season, and are led by Hannah Day, who is batting .357 with four home runs and 31 RBI. Each of Michelle Phelps and Amanda Winters have five home runs this season, while Becca Hartley leads the team with six so far in 2015.
Jaycee Affeldt has appeared in 26 games the Trojans have played in, and leads the team in wins (9), innings pitched (94.0) and strikeouts (76), while maintaining a team-low 3.05 ERA.
