NORFOLK, Va. - The UAB women’s soccer team could not overcome the Old Dominion attack as the Blazers fell, 2-0, at the ODU Soccer Complex Tuesday evening.
The UAB (2-10-1, 1-4-1 C-USA) offense came out of the box with three shots and two corner kicks in the opening minutes of the match and outshot the Lady Monarchs eight to seven in the first half.
The Lady Monarchs (5-9, 3-2 C-USA), however, netted a goal in the 29th minute off a corner kick to take a 1-0 advantage into the half. Kira Laurento scored the ODU goal off an assist from Iris Achterhof.
UAB held the Lady Monarchs scoreless for the first 20 minutes of the second half before ODU extended its lead with a goal from Deirdre Bradley in the 76th minute. Achterhof assisted on the score.
The Blazer offense tallied five shots and two corner kicks in the second half, but could not find the equalizer.
UAB total 13 shots in the match with junior Morgan Key-Adams tallying a team-leading three shots. Freshman Kelsey Daugherty made five saves in goal for the Blazers.
UAB continues conference play on Friday as the Blazers travel to Rice for a 7 p.m. CT match.
