Women's Soccer Stumbles at Rice, 2-0

HOUSTON, Texas - The UAB women’s soccer team held Rice scoreless in the second half, but could not overcome the Owls’
Rice (9-5-1, 5-2 C-USA) scored its first goal of the half off Lauren Hughes’ corner kick in the 26th minute. The cross from Hughes was headed by Samantha Chaiken to give the Owls a 1-0 advantage.
Jenny Fichera sent a cross in front of the net in the 32nd minute that Holly Hargreaves headed for the Owls’ second goal of the half as Rice carried the 2-0 advantage into the break.
Freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty tallied four saves in the second half to shut the Owls’ offense out. The Blazers tallied six shots in the
Senior Kasey Johnson and junior Morgan Key-Adams led the UAB (2-12-1, 1-5-1 C-USA) attack with two shots each. The Green and Gold recorded nine shots in the match with two landing on goal. Daugherty closed the game with six total saves.
UAB continues its Texas road trip on Sunday when the Blazers face (RV) North Texas. First kick at the Mean Green Soccer Complex is set for 1 p.m. CT.
