BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB softball team will wrap up its final full week of practice before the season with the two-day Green and Gold series of scrimmages this weekend.
The first game will be played at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, while the second game will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The scrimmages are open to the public.
"I'm anxious to go ahead and start playing ball, but I know that I have to cherish these last few scrimmages that I have and show what I have to give," senior outfielder Anna Theriot said. "I feel for coach when she has to make a lineup, to be honest. There's at least 15 starters here if not more. I'm excited for the scrimmages."
During practice this week, UAB worked with mental coach Brian Cain, who led team-building sessions throughout the week, including during a practice under the lights on Tuesday night.
"He's been amazing," said Theriot. "He has reinforced our strong mental game for the past four years, ensuring that we're confident in ourselves. It helps us know that if anything were to come outside or inside of softball, we could deal with it. We have to be able to overcome adversity and be at our best at playing our sport when it means the most."
The Blazers will begin their 2015 campaign with a road trip to Auburn, Ala. next weekend for the Plainsman Invite at Auburn University. In the first matchup of a five-game tournament, UAB will face off against the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Friday, Feb. 6, with first pitch set for 4:45 p.m.
