Luna Named Preseason All-Conference; UAB Picked To Finish Seventh

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB baseball senior pitcher Alex Luna was named to the Preseason All-Conference USA Team and the Blazers were picked to finish seventh by the league's head coaches, the league office announced in the 2015 Preseason Baseball Awards Wednesday.
Luna, an All-Conference USA Second Team honoree from a year ago, totaled a 1.76 ERA (33rd in the NCAA, fourth in C-USA) and went 7-1 in 2014. He started in 15 contests and combined for three shutouts, allowing just 17 earned runs in 87 innings pitched.
After being picked to finish ninth in last year's preseason poll, the Blazers won 35 games, the most since 1993 and third-most in history, en route to a program-best second-place finish in the league's regular season standings.
Rice, the defending regular season and conference tournament champions, was voted as the unanimous choice to win the league crown. FIU was picked second, followed by Old Dominion, Southern Miss and UTSA to round out the top five.
The Owls' John Clay Reeves was voted as the preseason player of the year and Rice's Blake Fox was named the preseason pitcher of the year.
The Green and Gold open the season Feb. 13 vs. Western Michigan at Regions Field. Season tickets for the 2015 slate are available for purchase for $40, while the 2015 Family Plan is set at $95, which includes two adult and two youth tickets.
Single game ticket prices will run the same as the 2014 rate at $7 for an adult ticket at Regions Field, $5 for youth and free admission for UAB students. The Young Memorial Field rates also remain the same this season at $5 for adult, $3 for youth and free admission for UAB students.
