BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB softball team will hold an intrasquad scrimmage at the UAB Softball Field on Saturday at 9 a.m. The scrimmage is open to the public.
“We are extremely excited for our first scrimmage of 2015,” said head coach Marla Townsend. “The ladies have had a very competitive fall, and we look forward to carrying that momentum into the spring.”
The Blazers open their season on Feb. 6 against Appalachian State at 4:45 p.m. at the Plainsman Invite hosted by Auburn. UAB opens its slate at UAB Softball Field on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. against Alabama for the sixth consecutive season.
UAB returns six starters from 2014, including junior infielder Caitlin Attfield who led the Blazers at the plate last season with 88 hits and 35 runs. Attfield batted .425 over the 59-game season on her way to second-team All-Conference USA honors.
UAB’s appearance in the NCAA Tournament a year ago made the Blazers one of 23 programs to earn five consecutive NCAA postseason appearances.
