Blazers Drop Series to South Florida

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Blazer Softball fell 3-1 to South Florida on Saturday, losing the series and falling to 7-16 in American Conference play. A pair of first-inning runs was enough to win the game for South Florida. The Bulls would add on another run later before the Blazers got their lone run of the game on an Ashlyn Shirah homerun.
The Bulls got on the board early, tripling to right field, then driving in the runner on an RBI groundout. South Florida then doubled its lead with a home run to left field.
South Florida tacked on another run in the fourth with a pair of singles, then a pair of sacrifices to drive in the run.
UAB failed to generate any offense early, going three-up-three-down for each of the first three innings. Shirah shook things up, blasting a solo home run to lead off the fourth inning. The Blazers followed the homer with a pair of baserunners but failed to convert on the opportunity.
The Blazers returned to their offensive struggles, going three-up-three-down in the final three innings of the game.
Olivia Cummings took the loss for the Blazers, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in three innings. Davidson relieved Cummings after two hitters in the fourth inning. Davidson finished the game, going four innings, allowing no runs on three hits and a walk.
