BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team opened up a critical week of practice on Monday as the Blazers begin preparations for Saturday's regular season finale at Southern Miss.
"I thought we may have started a little slow offensively today," head coach Bill Clark said following practice. "Sometimes there's some lingering effects (from Saturday's game) and maybe sometimes it's just Monday, but I think after just a few minutes they picked it up pretty good and I thought we had a really good day."
Clark talked about how the Blazers need to take advantage of their opportunities on defense as they look to win the turnover battle on USM's home turf on Saturday. Southern Miss has a -9 margin in turnover ratio in 11 games this season.
"Turnovers are one of those things we work on and talk about," said Clark. "A lot of times it's a game-to-game situation. I don't want to say lucky, but you've just got to be in the right place at the right time sometimes. I think pressure creates that and sometimes it's just your day to get those. Obviously, the turnover battle is always huge in who wins or loses."
Saturday's game will be televised on the American Sports Network and can be seen locally in Birmingham on WABM My68. Fans may also listen on the Blazer IMG Sports Network with David Crane (play-by-play), Steve Irvine (analyst) and Sam Miller (sideline reporter) on the call.
