BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Members of the UAB women’s soccer team will sit down with UABSports.com throughout the 2014 season to conduct Q&A’s. Check back with UABSports.com weekly for different features as the season progresses.
Today's Q&A features sophomore Kimberly Fincher, a native of Lawrenceville, Ga. Below Fincher talks about her time in Birmingham and much more.
If you did not play soccer, what sport would you play?
“I think I would play volleyball. I always wanted to play but I couldn't because it interfered with soccer. It's something that I’ve always wanted to do.”
What are your plans after you finish up at UAB?
“I want to go back home to Atlanta and study two more years to become a nurse practitioner.”
Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
“My parents inspire me to do my best. My dad has barely missed any of my games since I first started playing soccer, even in college. They are always there for me and are my biggest supporters. They make me want to do my best and make them proud.”
What is one thing people do not know about you?
“I am pretty creative. Sometimes I don't have the time because of school and soccer, but I love to paint, decorate and just do any type of crafting period.”
What is your favorite thing about living in Birmingham?
“I love how small Birmingham is. It reminds me of a smaller Atlanta. I love living in a smaller city because it is easier to get around in and I know where pretty much everything is by heart. I love going to school at UAB because it is in downtown Birmingham so everything is close by.”
The team won 11 games last year and advanced to the C-USA tournament for the first time since 2009, talk about how the success and turnaround from last year helps the team in moving forward this year?
“We definitely have a different team this year with 12 freshmen. Our record has greatly improved from the prior years, but we cannot be satisfied with that record. We all want to do even better than we did last year, and instead of making it to the conference tournament this year as our goal, we want to win it. Having 12 new, key players will definitely help us achieve our goal if we work together and play for each other. “
