BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's soccer (1-4-1) battled Auburn (4-0-2) for 90 minutes Thursday night at PNC Field, but a second-half goal proved to be the difference as the Blazers fell 1-0.

The Blazers held the Tigers scoreless through the opening 45 minutes despite Auburn generating six shots and seven corner kicks. UAB created its first chance in the 17^th minute when Caitlin Keeling sent an attempt wide left. Lailah Stewart followed with UAB's first shot on goal in the 26^th minute, forcing a save from Auburn goalkeeper Ayana Yapo.

Auburn broke the scoreless tie in the 55^th minute when Ellie Rebmann found the back of the net off an assist from Ava Caldwell to give the Tigers a 1-0 advantage. UAB responded with a pair of chances shortly after, as Lauren Lucero sent a shot high before Avery Berryman forced Yapo into a save in the 59^th minute.

The Blazers continued to search for the equalizer and generated back-to-back opportunities in the 73^rd minute. Vita Naihin and Stewart each put an attempt on frame, but Yapo turned away both shots. UAB earned one final corner kick with 15 seconds remaining but was unable to convert as Auburn held on for the 1-0 victory.

Macie Murphy finished with six saves in goal for the Blazers. Stewart led UAB with two shots, both on target, while Berryman and Naihin also recorded shots on goal. The Blazers finished with seven total shots and four on target, with five of its seven attempts coming after halftime.

Up next, UAB hits the road to face ULM on Sunday, September 6. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT.
