BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –--- The UAB women’s soccer team travels to Huntington, W.Va., on Friday to take on the Thundering Herd of Marshall and to Bowling Green, Ky., on Sunday to face WKU.
The Blazers are coming off a draw against Florida Atlantic last Sunday, 0-0. Junior goalkeeper Angelica Jimenez made eight saves in the match. With only seconds remaining in the second overtime, Jimenez came off her line to force a shot wide and off the post to keep the game scoreless. Sophomore forward Kimberly Fincher has tallied four goals in the past five matches and is second on the team with nine points. Senior midfielder Johanna Liney leads UAB with 14 points (6 goals, 2 assists).
Marshall went 1-0-1 last weekend, defeating UTSA, 1-0, and finishing in a scoreless tie against UTEP. The Blazers’ match at Marshall is the Thundering Herd’s third of four consecutive home games. Marshall is 2-2-3 while playing at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex. Kristine Culicerto leads the Thundering Herd with six goals. Lia Foster’s four helpers this season sets the pace for Marshall. In goal, Lizzie Kish has made 44 saves and is allowing 1.15 goals against per outing.
WKU plays its fifth-consecutive home match on Sunday when UAB comes to town. The Hilltoppers are 3-3-0 at the WKU Soccer Complex. In its last five outings, WKU is 2-3 with wins against UTSA, 3-1, and Marshall, 1-0. Lauren Moats has netted five goals to lead the Hilltoppers. Eight different players account for WKU’s 14 goals this season. Allison Leone has surrendered 13 goals in 12 matches, making 60 saves.

With a 7-2-1 series advantage, UAB has tallied its fourth most wins against a single opponent when playing the Thundering Herd.
Sophomore forward Kimberly Fincher has netted four goals in the last five matches.
Through 13 matches, 14 different Blazers have accounted for the squad’s 64 points (23 goals, 18 assists). Liney leads the way with six goals and 14 points (6 goals, 2 assists). Fincher is second with nine points (4 goals, 1 assist). Kasey Johnson and Paige Hanks lead the Blazers with four assists. Others to find the back of the net this season include: Paige Hanks (2), Rachel Green (2), Sarah Morris (2), Kasey Johnson (1), Megan Collins (1), Morgan Key-Adams (3), Amy Brewer (1) and Sharon Osterbind (1).
Hosting Florida Atlantic on Oct. 12, Jimenez made eight saves, including spoiling a breakaway for the Owls’ Asta Arnadottir in the second half. With seconds remaining in the second overtime period, Jimenez left her line to challenge Olivia Mbala’s shot, forcing it wide and off the post to keep the match knotted at 0-0.
In her five shutout performances this season, Jimenez has made 31 saves.
Jimenez is currently No. 21 nationally for total saves this season and No. 24 in saves per game.
The Series Against Marshall and WKU
UAB leads the all-time series against Marshall, 7-2-1. Last season in Huntington, W.Va., the Blazers downed the Thundering Herd, 1-0. UAB and WKU have never met on the pitch.
