UAB Track and Field Opens UAB Blazer Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB track and field team wrapped up competition Friday night with the opening events of the 2014 UAB Blazer Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Kyana White turned in UAB’s top performance of the night with a fourth place run in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:16.66. Breona Humphrey, Autumnn Burnett and Kandiss Briggs also ran in the 500-meter dash, turning in times of 1:19.31, 1:20.59 and 1:25.12, respectively.
In the 300-meter dash, Angel Watson finished the night seventh with a 39.60, while Shakima Knox finished 31st with a 40.93 and Fanta Diabate 32nd with a 40.96.
Shakima Knox was the high finishing Blazer in the 60-meter dash section A with an eight place result after a time of 7.60 seconds. Alexis Bates turned in 12th with a 7.66, while Kendra Gipson finished 36th with an 8.11 and Kelli Smith 42nd with an 8.26.
In the 60-meter dash section B, Angel Watson placed 20th with a 7.74 second run, while Jessica Shelley finished 43rd after an 8.36 second performance.
The Blazers also had solid runs in the 60-meter hurdles, as Shelley turned in a 14th place performance with an 8.88 second run in section B, while Neal Tisher finished 20th with a 9.12. Shelby Barker ran a 9.33 to finish 24th, while Akira McSwain was two behind Barker with a 9.44 to finish 26th.
In section A of the 60-meter hurdles prelims, Burnett turned in a 9.04 second run for 15th place, while Renay Ransaw finished 28th with a 9.36.
Tisher competed in the pole vault competition, but did not record a score, and Kendra Gipson fouled in her triple jump event for a no score.
Saturday’s action from the CrossPlex is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with events running through 4:15 p.m. Final results of the UAB Blazer Invitational will be posted at UABsports.com at the conclusion of tomorrow’s final day, and all information pertaining to the meet can be found on the track and field page under meet info at UABsports.com.
