Hudak, Harley pace UAB qualifiers at C-USA Track

HOUSTON, Texas ---- UAB distance runners Sarah Hudak and Elinor Kirk, along with hurdler Rachel Harley, paced the top performers here Saturday for the Blazer track team Saturday at the 2013 Conference USA Championships.
Hudak and Kirk finished 1-2 in the preliminary heats of the 1,500-meter run with times of 4:36.46 and 4:36.51, respectively. Those times were five seconds better than the third place qualifying effort. The final will be run Sunday.
Harley, a senior from Mason, Ohio, also was impressive Saturday as she clocked a time of 59.65 in the 400-meter hurdles, the second-best time of the day. Lytrice Thomas and Autumnn Burnett were just out of the qualifiers with times of 1:01.59 and 1:01.93.
In the 100-meter dash, UAB had a pair to qualify for Sunday's final in senior Alexis Bates (11.83) and junior Shakima Knox (11.93).
Meanwhile, Blazer junior Kyana White was second in her qualifying heat of the 400-meter dash at 55.30 but failed to reach Sunday's final.
The final day of competition will be held Sunday at the Rice University Track Stadium.
