UAB Softball Adds Three More To 2014 Class

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--UAB softball head coach Marla Townsend announced the addition of three more student-athletes to the Blazers' 2014 roster.
The additions include Lauren Beshel (Loganville, Ga./Loganville HS), Joanna Fallen (Prattville, Ala./Prattville HS) and Olivia Black (Canton, Ga./Sequoyah HS). The trio will join Maddie Hir, Amy Waters, Cara Goodwin, Danielle Fernandez and Mary Warren, who signed NLI's during the early signing period in November.
Lauren Beshel, P/1B/OF, Loganville, Ga./Loganville HS A three-year scholar-athlete at Loganville HS, Beshel was a two-year first-team all region selection, and was named to the all-state team in 2012. Academically, Beshel was named to the Loganville HS Principal's List, is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and Top-Ten Scholar.
Beshel is the daughter of Ed and Renee Beshel and has a sister, Courtney.
Joanna Fallen, IF/OF, Prattville, Ala./Prattville HS 2012 Prattville High School Offensive Player of the Year, Fallen recorded a .429 batting average with a .629 slugging percentage and a .446 on base percentage. Fallen recorded 60 hits, 37 RBI, three home runs and 13 stolen bases in 2012. Fallen was also named AHSADCA North-South All-Star and to the AHSAA All Metro Team for batting in 2012.
Academically, Fallen is a member of the Beta Club, Key Club, National Honor Society and French Club. Fallen is also the president of the Baptist Health Explorer Program.
Olivia Black, C, Canton, Ga./Sequoyah HS A four-year letterman at Sequoya HS, Black was voted to the AAAA 2011 All-Region and All-County teams, and was voted defensive MVP in her senior year. Played with the GA Trouble in 2012 and posted a .384 batting average, .555 on base percentage, 27 RBI and three home runs.
Academically, Black received an Academic Letter her senior year, received a Lamp of Knowledge Pin, and was a three-year participant in the National Art Honors Society.
