BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Rachel Daniell of the UAB women’s tennis team has been named the Student Athlete of the Week for her efforts on the court and in the classroom.

Daniell boasts a 3.92 GPA in biology (pre-medicine focus) and is currently undefeated in singles play with a 6-0 record. Each of her six wins have come in straight-sets, including Sunday’s 6-2, 6-4 win over Troy’s Lyubov Dorofeeva.

With her team down 3-0, Daniell’s victory against Dorofeeva ignited a Blazer rally that saw UAB comeback in a 4-3 triumph over the Trojans.

Daniell and the 5-1 UAB women’s tennis team plays at Samford on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. CT, before returning home to face Chattanooga at 1 p.m. CT Thursday.
