McGrath, Armstrong Named To Paradise Classic All-Tournament Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Junior Kristen McGrath and senior Kate Armstrong of the UAB softball team were voted to the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic All-Tournament Team, event-host Hawaii announced on Sunday.
McGrath hit .375 with three homeruns and seven RBI last week as the Blazers opened the 2013 season with three victories. In UAB's 4-3 upset win over No. 16 Washington, the Tampa, Fla., native was sitting on an 0-2 count in the bottom of the fourth inning when she blasted UAB's first score of the game.
One pitch later, Armstrong hit her first home run of the season to give UAB a 2-1 lead. In five games, the Vestavia Hills, Ala., native has recorded 14 at bats and owns an on-base percentage of .438--the second highest on the squad.
Washington's Hooch Fagaly was voted the tournament's Most Valuable Player, and Hawaii's Kaia Parnaby was named Most Valuable Pitcher.
The Blazers (3-2, 0-0 C-USA) return to action at the Kennesaw State Classic, Feb. 16-17. UAB will take on Eastern Kentucky and SIUE on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. ET and 3:30 p.m. ET, respectively. On Sunday, UAB will face IUPUI at 10:30 a.m. ET, followed by UT Martin at 3:30 p.m. ET.
