Blazers, Gamecocks Take Diamond On Wednesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB baseball team will host Jacksonville State for the Blazers final midweek game of the season at Young Memorial Field on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.
The game will air locally on WJOX-AM 690 with David Crane on the call.

2012 Meetings: The Blazers have won two of three meetings with the Gamecocks in 2012. UAB won the first meeting on Feb. 29, 5-4, before splitting a pair of games in Jacksonville, winning 14-8 before losing 4-3.
In the 14-8 victory, the game was actually suspended in the sixth inning on Feb. 28 and then completed on March 21.
Series Leaders: Ivan De Jesus and Coy Arrowood each are hitting .429 (6-for-14) against JSU this season. Patrick Palmeiro has also swung the bat well versus Gamecock arms, hitting .364 (4-for-11) with four RBI.
Wednesday’s starter, David Hayes, will make his third start of the season against JSU. The southpaw has totaled six innings, allowing five earned runs with three strikeouts in his two previous outings against the Gamecocks.
UAB NOTES
>UAB dropped all three games at Memphis to fall to 7-11 in league play and 26-23 overall.
>The Blazers are hitting .265 as a team and averaging 4.86 runs and 9.18 hits per ball game.
>RHP Ben Bullard fanned seven in his Saturday start against UM, bringing his season strikeout total to 78. He is now three strikeouts away from cracking the top 10 list at UAB for strikeouts in a single season.
>OF Jeff Schalk collected a hit in all three games of the Memphis series, including a two-hit game on Saturday. For the season Schalk as a team-best 17 total multi-hit games and has recorded at least one base knock in 16 of 18 league games for a .378 average. Schalk's batting average in C-USA games ranks fifth in the conference.
>In his home city of Memphis, C Harry Clark hit .429 (3-for-7) in the series against the Tigers.
>OF Ivan De Jesus owns a .350 (14-for-40) batting average over his last 10 games, roping three doubles, two homers and knocking in five. De Jesus has scored six times and stole two bases, while recording a hit in eight of the 10 games.
JSU NOTES
>The Gamecocks have been a hot team as of late, winning six of their last seven games, including two of three against Southeast Missouri over the weekend.
>JSU is hitting .272 as a club and averaging 5.28 runs and 9.47 hits per contest.
>As a team, JSU has clubbed 44 homers, led by Ben Waldrip’s 15 round trippers. Sam Eberle and Kyle Bluestein also add pop to the Gamecocks’ lineup, with seven home runs each.
>Eberle leads the team with a .364 batting average and reaching base at a team-high .464 clip. For the season, Eberle has walked 26 times compared to just 15 strikeouts.
