BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB baseball team earned the No. 7 seed in the Conference USA Baseball Championship presented by Trustmark, which begins Wednesday at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss., announced by the league office on Saturday evening.
The 2012 Conference USA Championship presented by Trustmark will feature the top eight teams in regular-season league play. Those eight will be split into two four-team pools (or pods), with the winner of each pod playing in a single championship game. Teams are assigned pods based on seed, which are determined by the order of finish in regular-season conference play.
UAB (29-27, 9-15 C-USA) earned a spot in the second pod, featuring No. 2 seed UCF (41-14, 16-8), No. 3 seed Tulane (37-18, 14-10) and No. 6 seed East Carolina (34-20-1, 13-10-1).
Each team receives an off day as part of the new tournament format as the Blazers and Knights will wait to square off until Thursday, while the other six teams compete on day one.
All three tournament games will air locally on WJOX-AM 690 with David Crane on the call.
