UAB Hosts Samford For Tuesday Twin Bill

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB softball team is set to host cross-town opponent Samford in a twin bill Tuesday at the UAB Softball Field. A single game at 6 p.m. was originally scheduled, but is now a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. CT.

Series History
The Blazers own the all-time series 24-5. The two teams have met up since the inception of UAB’s program in 2000.
Last season, the Blazers swept the Bulldogs in a doubleheader at Samford on March 22 with scores of 3-1 and 11-2.
UAB At A Glance
The Blazers (23-14, 9-3 C-USA) are coming of a 3-1 week, when they defeated Troy, 1-0, during the week at home and went 2-1 against East Carolina in Greenville, N.C.
The Blazers are currently in second place in C-USA, behind Tulsa (10-2) and are 7-5 at home.
The last six of eight contests for UAB have been decided by one run, with the Blazers coming out on top, 4-2, in those games. So far this season, 18 of UAB’s games have come down to one run and the team has a 10-8 record in those matchups.
Mandy Lowman leads the squad with a .414 batting average. She has a team-best 41 hits and is slugging .697 with a .525 on-base percentage. Kristen McGrath has nine home runs and 28 RBI, while Whitney Fletcher has scored 24 runs.
Amber Torres (5-3) leads the pitching staff with a 1.26 ERA. Lannah Campbell (10-4) has seen the most time in the circle, pitching 88.1 innings and collecting 99 strikeouts.
Scouting Samford
The Bulldogs (9-27, 3-9 SoCon) last played on April 1, wrapping up a three-game series, in which Samford went 1-2, against conference opponent UNC Greensboro at home.
Samford was set to play a doubleheader against Middle Tennessee State on April 5 but the games were cancelled due to weather.
Julianne Surane leads Samford’s offensive effort with a .377 batting average and 18 runs. Madison Dickey has a team-high 38 hits and 18 RBI, slugging .492.
In the circle, Misha Aldridge (5-13, 3.36 ERA) has tossed 16 complete game and 129.1 innings, allowing 153 hits, 31 walks and 67 strikeouts.
