UAB Travels To East Carolina For Weekend Series

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -The UAB softball team continues Conference USA action this weekend, traveling to Greenville, N.C. to take on the East Carolina Pirates in a three-game series. The Blazers and Pirates will play a doubleheader on Friday starting at 5 p.m. ET and a single game on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. ET.

Series History
The Blazers and Pirates will meet for the 35th time on Friday. ECU owns the all-time series 18-16, while UAB has an 8-7 record in Greenville.
Last season, ECU took two of three against UAB in Birmingham. The teams split a doubleheader on April 16 with the Pirates winning the series opener, 3-2, in 11 innings. The Blazers won game two, 2-0, thanks to a two-run blast by Kristen McGrath, but fell in the series finale, 6-2, on April 17.
UAB At A Glance
The Blazers (21-13, 7-2 C-USA) topped Troy, 1-0, in a midweek matchup and look to bounce back after dropping two conference games to Houston last weekend.
UAB currently sits in second place in the C-USA standings behind Tulsa (24-7, 8-1 C-USA).
The Blazers are batting .279 as a team led by senior Mandy Lowman (.429). The clean up hitter is slugging .736, has an on-base percentage of .540 and has walked a team-high 21 times.
Sophomore Lannah Campbell (9-4) leads the Blazer pitching staff with 91 strike outs in 80 innings pitched. As a staff, the Blazers own a 2.24 ERA led by Amber Torres (1.42) and have held opponents to a .231 hitting clip.
Scouting East Carolina
The Pirates (15-21, 3-6 C-USA) are on a four-game skid after dropping a 9-3 decision to the N.C. State Wolfpack on Wednesday and being swept at UCF last weekend.
ECU is batting .264 as a team and is led by Jill Jelnick (.340). Suzanne Riggs leads the squad with six home runs and Kristi Oshiro has scored a team-best 27 runs.
Sarah Christian (12-11) leads the pitching staff with a 3.73 ERA. She has collected 45 strikeouts and has allowed 95 runs and 179 hits in 135.0 innings pitched.
