HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- UAB and Southern Miss are tied, 3-3, in the women's tennis match that was delayed by rain Thursday and eventually suspended because of darkness.
The match will be resumed Friday at 9 a.m. CT. UAB is then slated to play its regularly scheduled match against Memphis in Hattiesburg at 12 p.m. CT.
When action continues between the Blazers and Lady Eagles, it will be the doubles matches that are on the courts. Each of the three doubles contests is in progress with both sides needing to win two of them to claim the match.
After rain delayed the start of Thursday's play, the teams decided to begin with singles action so doubles could be played only if necessary. It proved necessary when singles ended with the teams deadlocked.
UAB picked up its singles points in the middle of the lineup, where Rachel Daniell was a straight-set winner over Kate Lanier, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3, and Caroline Faught followed with a win in straight sets over MacKenzie Oskin, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 4.
Menanteau Moolman provided the Blazers' third win, posting a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 victory over Moorea Williams at No. 5. Two other matches also went three sets, with UAB needing just one of them, but Southern Miss was able to pull out both.
The Lady Eagles got a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win from Alexus Coats over Paula Alvarez at No. 1 and a 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 win from Alex Bradley over Rachel Cohen at No. 6. The other USM win came in straight sets with Elja van Berlo topping Isabel Fernandez, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 2.
