BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –The UAB track and field team will split up this weekend and compete at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. on Thursday and the Auburn Invitational in Auburn, Ala. on Friday and Saturday.
“We’re sending a handful of distance athletes to the Mt. SAC relays, which is one of the largest and best meets in the country every year,” UAB head coach Kurt Thomas said. “The weather is always pristine for distance racing and the quality of competition is unparalleled.
“For Clara Cid to race a great 10K, and Sarah Hudak and Kristina Vaughn to get the best 1,500m and 3,000m steeplechase races there isn’t another place to go.”
The rest of the team will compete at the Auburn Invitational. The meet will kick off Friday at 4:30 p.m. with the men’s hammer throw and continue on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the women’s pole vault. The meet will conclude Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. with the men’s 4x400-meter relay.
“We are sending the majority of our team to Auburn,” Thomas said. “Auburn usually hosts very competitive meets for sprinting, jumping, hurdling and middle distance, and it’s close to home. The ladies will get a great opportunity to compete.”

“This is our last big weekend before we go to the C-USA Championships. We are really looking for them to look sharp, and run and jump well,” Thomas said. “We have one more meet next week at Southern Miss to clean up any events we need, but these meets will provide us with a great opportunity to be at our best before conference.”
