Blazers Travel To Jacksonville State, Chattanooga

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –The UAB softball team will kick off a nine-game road swing this week with three midweek non-conference games. The Blazers will make the short trip to Jacksonville State for a single game on Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. CT, before traveling to Chattanooga for a doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 4 p.m. ET.
UAB At A Glance
The Blazers (27-15, 11-4 C-USA) are 7-3 in their last 10 games and went 4-1 last week. UAB defeated Samford in a doubleheader on Tuesday with two run-rule victories, 12-4 (5) and 8-0 (6), before taking two of three from UCF.
The Blazers allowed just one run and eights hits through 22 innings against the Knights and outscored the competition 24-5 on the week.
Of UAB’s total 42 games, 19 have been decided by one run where the Blazers are 10-9 in those games and 11 have been decided by two runs with the Blazers going 9-2 in those contests.
Four Blazers are hitting over .300 led by Mandy Lowman (.391). Kristen McGrath has a team-high 11 long balls and 31 RBI on 35 hits.
The pitching staff owns a 2.12 ERA with 10 shutouts, 15 complete games and five saves. Lannah Campbell (11-5, 1.76 ERA) leads the squad with 99. 2 innings pitched and 107 strikeouts.
Scouting Jacksonville State
The Gamecocks (23-22, 17-7 OVC) are 7-3 in their last 10 games. Jacksonville State recently took two of three games against SIU-Edwardsville last weekend.
Shelby Holley leads the Gamecocks with a .323 batting average and 16 home runs. Sara Borders has a team high 29 runs, while Kaycee Crow leads the squad with 34 RBI.
Tiffany Harbin (13-6) leads the pitching staff with 16 complete games and a 2.27 ERA. She has tossed 132.1 innings, allowing 43 earned runs, walking 41 and striking out 127.
Series History
The Blazers and Gamecocks met earlier this season on March 6 in Birmingham. Jacksonville State came from behind and won that contest, 6-5.
UAB’s Kayla Orr went 2-for-4 with two runs and Catherine Crawford went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI in the game.
Scouting Chattanooga
The Mocs (27-13, 11-2 SoCon) are on an eight-game win streak. Last weekend, they defeated Tennessee Tech in six innings, 8-0, and swept a three-game set against Western Carolina.
Chattanooga has two players that are batting over .400 in Michelle Fuzzard (.452) and Sara Poteat (.443) and five players that are batting over .300 led by Kasey Tydingco (.357). Fuzzard is slugging an impressive .827 with 44 RBI on 47 hits.
Taylor Deason (16-7, 2.19 ERA) has seen the most time in the circle with 140.2 innings pitched. She has struck out 119, walked 53 and allowed 44 earned runs.
Series History
UAB leads the all-time series, 10-8. Last season, the teams split a doubleheader in Birmingham on April 7. The Blazers fell, 11-3, in game one, before winning the finale, 1-0.
