STARKVILLE, Miss. - The UAB track and field team completed day one of the Mississippi State Invitational on Friday at the Spencer Stadium and Maddox Track in Starkville, Miss.
Freshman Toni Hawkins claimed a first place finish in the pole vault with a leap of 11-01.75 (3.50m)- a new outdoor school and freshman record. The Pelham, Ala. native out-jumped the competition by more than a foot as the next competitor from UAH vaulted 9-08.00 (2.95m).
Redshirt senior Rhiannon Johns competed unattached in the 5,000-meters, in which she placed first with a time of 16:19. 07.
UAB will compete in the high, triple and long jumps Saturday afternoon, along with the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, 1,500 meters, 4x400-meter relay and the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles.
