BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB baseball team will take on the Alabama Crimson Tide on Tuesday at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala. First pitch between the two clubs is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT.

Tuesday’s ball game will be broadcasted live on WJOX-AM 690 with David Crane (play-by-play) and Ryan Keedy (color) on the call. Pregame will start ten minutes prior to game time.

Scouting UAB
The Blazers took two of three against Marshall at Young Memorial Field over the weekend to start up Conference USA action and improve their overall record to 16-9.
After dropping the series opener 7-4, UAB bounced back to claim the next two contests by the same 5-1 score.
As a staff UAB sports a team ERA of 3.36, giving up 84 earned runs in 225.0 total innings. The Blazer arms have shown great control in 2012, striking out nearly three times as many batters as walks, 178 to 63.
The 63 walks are the fewest by a pitching staff in Conference USA this season and UAB pitchers have worked the second most innings in the league.
UAB is holding opponents to a .238 batting average, which ranks second in C-USA, trailing only the Rice Owls.
Taking the hill for UAB will be right-hander Tanner Bryant. A junior college transfer from Southern Union State C.C., Bryant has made eight total appearances including four starts. The Newnan, Ga., native has worked 22.2 innings and surrendered five earned runs on 26 hits. He has struck out 13 batters compared to four walks and opponents are hitting .286 against him.
At the plate, UAB is hitting .271 as a team led by outfielder Ivan De Jesus. The sophomore owns a .320 batting average, with 31 hits in 97 at bats and 11 runs scored. De Jesus has also knocked in nine and stole five bases in six attempts.
Freshman Jeff Schalk enters Tuesday with the second-highest batting clip (.307) and has an on-base percentage of .418, featuring a team-high 13 walks.
UAB has 14 players with 24 or more at bats and a total of 48 extra-base hits. Leading the power numbers is Patrick Palmeiro, who has nine doubles, one triple and one homer.
Scouting Alabama
The Tide dropped two of three to No. 17 Ole Miss in Tuscaloosa last weekend. On the season, Alabama is 9-15 and 1-5 in SEC action.
Alabama will send righty Trey Pilkington to the rubber. Pilkington is 0-2 with a 6.28 ERA in eight outings, including two starts. In 14.1 innings, the right-hander has given up 10 earned runs on 26 hits with nine strikeouts and three walks. Opponents are hitting .388 against Pilkington this season.
Offensively, Alabama is hitting .241 as a team with eight home runs. Ben Moore has the top average on the club, hitting at a .321 clip with 12 RBI. Jared Reaves has 14 RBI and hitting .302 and Brett Booth has knocked in 18 this season.
