UAB Set for C-USA Matchup at Marshall

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The UAB softball team will return to conference action this weekend when it travels to Huntington, W.Va. for a three-game series with Marshall. The Blazers sit first in Conference USA and will play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. ET, before playing a single game on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. ET at Dot Hicks Field.
UAB (16-11, 3-0 C-USA) fell to Mississippi State, 4-3, in a midweek contest. Junior Whitney Fletcher went 2-for-4 with a run scored and senior Kayla Orr went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Five Blazers are batting over .300 in Mandy Lowman (.446), Kayla Orr (.359), Catherine Crawford (.325), Kristen McGrath (.320) and Whitney Fletcher (.302). Lowman leads the team with 33 hits and 56 total bases. The cleanup hitter is slugging .757 with a .539 on-base percentage.
McGrath has a team-high seven home runs and 22 RBI, while Fletcher leads the squad with 20 runs scored.
Lannah Campbell (7-4) leads the pitching staff with a 1.59 ERA in 15 appearances. She has fanned 81 batters and allowed just 15 earned runs in 66.0 innings pitched.
Scouting Marshall
The Thundering Herd (17-11, 5-1 C-USA) went 2-1 during the week, splitting a doubleheader with Lipscomb Monday, before topping Belmont on Tuesday.
Marshall has five players batting over .300 led by senior Melissa Loesing (.362). Junior Ashley Gue leads the squad with 18 runs, 26 hits and 21 stolen bases, while junior Jazmine Valle has a team-best four home runs and 19 RBI.
Junior pitcher Andi Williamson (12-6) is tops on the team and the conference in ERA (1.52), opposing batting average (.177), hits allowed (61) and runs allowed (33).
Series History
UAB leads the all-time series against Marshall 11-9. Last season, the Blazers swept the three-game series versus the Herd in Birmingham.
