BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB Softball led 4-0 against the Roadrunners and carried a two-run lead into the sixth inning, but fell to UTSA in eight innings after a pair of three-run innings pushed the Roadrunners in front.

Ashlyn Shirah continued to star in the lead-off spot, reaching base three times with a three-run homer and a pair of walks. The Blazers walked nine times, the most this season. Along with Shirah, Madeline Flammia and Charlee Bennett each walked twice.

A wild first inning from UTSA and the Shirah three-run blast gave the Blazers a four-run lead before UTSA's Katia Reyes began chipping away, driving in all five runs to take the lead. UAB tied on a bases-loaded single in the sixth inning but couldn't come back from a three-run eighth inning by the Roadrunners.

Olivia Cummings threw six innings for the Blazers, allowing eight hits and five earned runs. Cole tried to set up a seventh-inning victory with a clean inning but gave up three runs on four hits in the eighth, taking her third loss of the season.

Notables

Charlee Bennett walked twice, bringing her season total to 28 walks, tied for the 10th most in a UAB season.
UAB is now 12-4 in games when leading after the fifth inning.
UAB walked nine times, the most in a single game this season.
