UAB Travels To Mississippi State For Tuesday Matchup

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –The UAB softball team will put its five-game win streak on the line when it travels to Mississippi State on Tuesday. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT at the MSU Softball Stadium.
The Blazers (16-10, 3-0 C-USA) posted two victories over SEC team Kentucky and swept the competition last weekend at the University of Kentucky Tournament with a perfect 5-0 mark.
Senior Mandy Lowman leads UAB at the plate. She is batting .465 with 33 hits in 71 at bats. The clean up hitter launched her sixth long ball of the season over the weekend, bumping her career total to 27 and surpassing the UAB all-time career record holder Andrea Rodgers (26, 2006-09).
Sophomore Kristen McGrath leads the team with seven home runs and 21 RBI, while C-USA Hitter of the Week Whitney Fletcher has scored a team-best 19 runs.
Sophomore Lannah Campbell leads the pitching staff with a 1.69 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 62.0 innings pitched. Sophomore Leigh Streetman picked up three wins over the weekend, and a career-high 13 strikeouts in the 3-1 victory against UMKC.
Scouting Mississippi State
The Bulldogs (17-12, 3-7 SEC) return home after a five-game road stretch. Mississippi State went 2-3 in those contests, sweeping a doubleheader with South Carolina, before dropping a three-game series to LSU.
Senior Brittany Bell leads the squad, batting .413 with 24 runs and 31 hits. Junior Jessica Cooley is hitting .329 with a team-high nine round-trippers and 25 RBI.
Junior lefty Stephanie Becker (9-5) has seen the most time in the circle with 96.0 innings pitched. She has a team-best 2.04 ERA, has tossed eight complete games and has 87 strikeouts.
Series History
Mississippi State leads the all-time series versus the Blazers, 12-2. In the teams’ last meeting on March 1, 2011 in Birmingham, UAB won 8-0 in five innings. Kayla Orr went 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI and one home run in that contest.
