No. 29 UAB Vaults To Fourth At Schenkel Invite

STATESBORO, Ga. - The 29th-ranked UAB men's golf team carded its third-lowest round (279) of the year and is in a tie for fourth overall after two rounds of the Schenkel Invitational. The Blazers, one of six top-30 teams in the 14-team field, enter Sunday's final 18 holes in a tie with No. 24 Florida with a team score of 11-under par 565.
"We played good today," UAB head coach Alan Kaufman said. "We are only six shots out of third. If we play well tomorrow, the we'll have a great tournament."
Freshman Paul Dunne (70-69) and sophomore Sam Love (70-69) are in a tie for ninth with a five-under par 139, to lead the Blazers. Both set spring season lows in each of their opening two rounds, while Love matched his career-best 36-hole score.
"Paul and Sam are playing super and hopefully they will both have a top 10 finish," Kaufman said.
Sophomore Wilson McDonald is the third Blazer to have red numbers after two rounds, as he comes into Sunday's last round in a tie for 25th overall with a one-under par 143 (72-71).
Sophomore Thomas Sutton is in a tie for 41st with a 146 (76-70), while junior Hunter Hawkins rounds out the Blazers with a 147 (74-73) on the par 72, 6,962-yard Forest Heights Country Club course.
Seventh-ranked Alabama leads by 21 strokes over No. 26 Virginia (558), carding an impressive 39-under par 537. Auburn, ranked second in the nation, is just ahead of the Blazers and Gators with at 17-under 559.
