Men's Golf Team In Sixth At Memphis Intercollegiate

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The 34th-ranked UAB men's golf team is sixth place after 36 holes of the Memphis Intercollegiate on Monday. The Blazers carded a team score of 601 (298-303) during the day and will come into Tuesday's final 18 holes only eight strokes out of the top spot.
Senior Jason Shufflebotham (75-74) and junior Hunter Hawkins (72-77) paced UAB on the day, both carding a five-over par 149 to finish in a tie for 11th overall. Hawkins recorded the only score that was not over par with his opening round even par 72 on the 7,334-yard Colonial Country Club course.
Redshirt sophomore Thomas Sutton is the third Blazer among the top 15 golfers, finishing in a tie for 14th overall with a six-over par 150 (74-76) after two rounds. Freshman Paul Dunne will come into the final round in a tie for 30th overall with a 153 (77-76), while sophomore Sam Love rounds out UAB in 36th overall with a 155 (78-77).
Six strokes separate the top five teams in the 12-team event, which features four teams ranked among the top 50 in the nation. Kennesaw State, ranked No. 41 in the nation, leads the field after 36 holes with a 593, followed by No. 42 Middle Tennessee at 596. Vanderbilt, Akron and tournament-host No. 43 Memphis are all tied for third at 599, just two strokes ahead of the Blazers.
