BIRMINGHAM, Ala –The UAB track and field team is set to compete at the Vulcan Invite Friday and Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Distance runners Sarah Hudak and Clara Cid are both ranked in the 5,000 meters in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) south region poll.
Hudak is ranked No. 1 in the south region in the 5,000 meters. Last weekend at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational, Hudak placed fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:41.81—the fourth fastest indoor time in school history.
That time earned the Manchester, England native the current No. 20 spot in the nation in the 5,000-meters according to USTFCCCA.
Cid is ranked No. 4 in the south region after setting a personal-best time of 17:02.98 in the 5,000 meters at the same meet.
The Zaragoza, Spain native and the Blazers look to continue to improve at the Vulcan Invitational, which will feature 22 teams, including C-USA opponents No. 16 Southern Miss and Memphis.
The two-day meet begins Friday at 4 p.m. with the women’s mile and continues on Saturday with the women's weight throw at 9 a.m. The men’s 4x400-meter relay beginning at 7 p.m. will be the last race of the meet on Saturday.
The Blazers will compete in the mile, high jump and long jump on Friday. UAB will run in the 60-meter, 60-meter hurdles, 200-meter, 400-meter, 800-meter, 3000-meter and 4x400-meter relay races, along with the pole vault and triple jump field events on Saturday.
