No. 27 Men's Golf Places 10th At John Hayt

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. - The 27th-ranked UAB men's golf team finished tied for 10th at the 2012 John Hayt Collegiate Invitational with a team total of 892 (307-293-292).
The Blazers, who were one of nine ranked teams in the 15-team field, improved every round in the three-day, 54-hole event and finished only nine strokes back of fourth place.
Senior Jason Shufflebotham recorded a two-under par 70 during Tuesday's final 18 holes to lead the Blazers with a five-over par 221 (78-73-70). It was his fourth top-25 finish of the year and first in two tournaments this spring.
Junior Hunter Hawkins (76-72-74) and freshman Paul Dunne (74-71-77) both tied for 22nd with a 222 on the par 72, 6,977-yard Sawgrass Country Club course.
Sophomore Sam Love tied for 55th with a 229 (79-77-73), while sophomore Wilson McDonald rounded out the Blazers with a 234 to finish in 71st.
Arkansas, ranked eighth in the nation, captured the tournament title for a second straight year with an 872, which included a seven-under par 281 on Tuesday. UCF, No. 17 in the nation and the tournament leaders after both the first and second rounds, finished second with an 876. Tournament host No. 13 North Florida (877) placed third, followed by fourth-place Coastal Carolina (883), No. 40 North Texas (885) and No. 42 TCU (885).
The Blazers will next be in action on March 9-10 at the Memphis Invitational held in Memphis, Tenn.
