Defense Leads Blazers By Troy, 75-55

TROY, Ala. ---- The UAB men’s basketball team held Troy scoreless for the final 8:29 of the first half and built up a lead it would not surrender, cruising to a 75-55 win on the road at Trojan Arena.
UAB (4-3) fell behind 20-18, when Hunter Williams drained a 3-pointer with 8:29 left in the first half. The Blazer defense would turn up the burners, holding Troy (4-3) scoreless the rest of the half. During the scoreless stretch, UAB mounted a 17-0 run to take a 35-20 advantage into the locker room.
Terence Jones ended the first half with 10 points, seven of which came during the 17-0 scoring spree for the Blazers.
UAB held Troy to just 25 percent (7-for-28) shooting in the first half, as the Trojans missed their last nine shots prior to intermission.
Blazers would not let up, making five of their first seven 3-point attempts to start the second half and led the rest of the night.
Robert Williams posted a career-high 18 points in the victory, sinking 6-of-10 shots, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range and added nine rebounds.
Also producing on offense was Jordan Swing, who battled foul trouble for most of the first half. Swing saved his contribution for after halftime, scoring 16 of his 18 points in the second half, shooting 5-of-8 from the floor overall and a perfect 6-for-6 at the charity stripe.
Rod Rucker posted his third double-double of the season, 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Terence Jones totaled 14 points of his own for the Blazers.
UAB held Troy to 33.3 (19-for-57) shooting for the game and out-rebounded the Trojans 45 to 29.
After struggling from the foul line in their last game vs. TCU, the Blazers sank 14 of 15 foul shots (93.3 percent).
UAB continues on its current road trip, heading to Chapel Hill, N.C., to play No. 14 North Carolina. The Blazers and Tar Heels meet on Saturday at 5 p.m. CT. The game will air on ESPNU and will be broadcasted on 107.7 WUHT-FM
