BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB football team practiced in full pads for roughly two hours on Tuesday afternoon, preparing for Saturday’s road game at Tulane, which is set for 2:30 p.m. CT inside the Superdome in New Orleans.
UAB (1-6, 0-3 C-USA) is coming off a back-and-forth loss to East Carolina, falling 42-35 at Legion Field. Quarterback Austin Brown threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns in the loss. Tight ends Kennard Backman and Sam Accursio each hauled in the first touchdowns of their collegiate careers for the Blazer offense.
Following practice, offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm spoke with the media, discussing Tulane’s(1-6, 1-2 C-USA) defense and what UAB needs to do to be successful.
“(Tulane’s defense) has gotten better and better each week,” Brohm said. “They won a couple of weeks ago, they played tough this past week and they try to get the big play with their defense and make you work (the ball) down the field.”
The Green Wave is coming off a close defeat of its own, falling on the road at UTEP, 24-20.
Brohm stressed not turning the ball over and playing with enthusiasm in order to be successful Saturday in New Orleans.
“We’ve got to come out and execute and take care of the ball and make sure we play hard with great effort and that’s the only way we are going to have a chance,” Brohm said.
The contest will also air locally on the Blazer IMG Sports Network on WUHT-FM 107.7. The voice of the Blazers, David Crane will call the game action with John Whitcomb providing analysis and Sam Miller reporting from the sidelines.
